About Capp Creative
The Quick and Dirty
I'm a website designer in Calgary Alberta. I've been designing and coding websites in various capacities since the 90s. Capp Creative is my website design company.
My primary purpose is to help swashbuckling entrepreneurs to use their websites and online marketing tools to build their businesses.
Background
I dove into the world of web design because the company I co-owned needed a website. We wasted a lot of time and money dealing with half-assed companies who were trying to cash in on "this internet fad". Eventually I bought some web publishing software, locked myself in a room and a couple of weeks later I had built my first website.
Before that, all my design experience had focused on print design. The immediacy and flexibility of publishing content in HTML was amazing to me and I've been pushing pixels ever since.
Skills & Collaboration
My experience and interest lies in the front end design of websites and web applications. I create the design and then write standards based CSS/XHTML to get the site up and running. If heavy lifting of back end development is required I call upon a variety of talented individuals to make things come to life. This approach allows me to expand my team when needed and offer a wider array of services.
Additional Services Include
- Copywriting
- Flash and Action script programming
- Database development
- Ruby on Rails & PHP programming
- Video creation & editing
- Hosting and domain name registration
- Soup & nuts
Education
Like most internet professionals, my education is an amalgamation of self directed learning. I read a variety of books, blogs and how to articles on weekly basis. I listen to podcasts and watch online videos and subscribe to a couple of training services to keep the grey matter humming. I also enjoy attending conferences like SXSW, the How Design Conference and most recently, An Event Apart.
I even went to art school for a couple of years and ended up in the Jewellery and Metals department.
About this Website
This website uses Expression Engine for content management. EE Makes it simple to add, edit and maintain content all within a fully customized and flexible design. It kicks ass - much like I do.
The snappy caricatures peppered about the site were created by the very talented Guy Parsons.
